Hello,
Dolly!
Wells
Fargo Center spreads its wings for Dolly
Santa Rosa, CA (February 13, 2007) - Crews will work throughout
the night Tuesday and well into the day Wednesday to prepare
a palace of pink at the Sonoma County fairgrounds. Grace Pavilion,
which normally takes on the appearance of an empty airline hanger,
is being transformed in preparation for the arrival of the queen
of pink herself, movie and music legend Dolly Parton. Come 8pm
Wednesday, February 14th, nearly 3,000 of Parton's adoring
fans will pack into "the Grace" for a special Valentine's Day
presentation.
"We're presenting this performance at Grace Pavilion because
the set materials for Dolly's extensive, arena-sized stage production
wouldn't fit into the Wells Fargo Center 's main theater," said
Rick Bartalini, Director of Programming. The stage production
will require 28 rigging points to hang over 20,000 pounds of
equipment. The set materials, which arrived in two full semi-trucks,
include two stair cases, a hydraulic lift, and a quick change
room. In addition, the Wells Fargo Center for the Arts is adding
approximately $30,000 in additional lighting and sound equipment
to enhance the production experience of the venue.
"The overall atmosphere of the venue is also top of mind," said
Bartalini "We're working to 'Dolly-ize' the space into a place
of warmth and welcome, after all this is Valentine's Day AND
it's Dolly Parton!"
When Parton fans arrive at Grace Pavilion Valentine's Day evening,
they'll be met with a spectacle of "eye candy" appropriate for
the celebration. The shopping list to create the affect included:
- 3000 Happy Valentine's Day Dolly Cards
- 3000 round red stickers to affix the cards to the seats
- 6,000 Hershey kisses.everyone gets two!
- 440 8-foot pieces of black drape
- 450 yards of white muslin for ceiling décor
- 24 Lekos for projecting heart patterns
- 24 heart pattern Gobos
- 66 hot pink lights
- 1 Dolly Parton
Dolly Parton's Valentine's Day presentation sold out within
two hours of being placed on sale. The Santa Rosa performance
is one of only six shows on the star's U.S. Tour. Parton heads
next to Europe for a sold tour overseas. It's her first European
tour in two decades.
A very limited number of tickets to Parton's Santa Rosa performance
may be released tomorrow. These tickets may be purchased in person
only at the Grace Pavilion box office on February 14, 2007 at
5pm and 7:45pm.
