Santa Rosa, CA (July 14, 2006) - One of the most successful
adult contemporary singers of the last three decades, pop icon
and world famous singer/actress Olivia Newton-John will kick
off her 2006 U.S. tour in Santa Rosa next month. The Emmy-winning
songwriter and four-time Grammy-winner will perform a concert
featuring decades of hits at the Wells Fargo Center for the
Arts on August 3 rd at 8pm. The Santa Rosa concert will
be the first stop in a multi-city U.S. engagement that will
keep the pop star on the road through December.
Olivia Newton-John enjoyed a string of hit singles before
her appearance in the movie Grease vaulted her into
the upper regions of pop icon-hood. Olivia first captured American
hearts in the mid-seventies, with her clear light voice and
delicate sensitivity displayed in songs such as "I Honestly
Love You" and "Have You Never Been Mellow." Throughout the
years, Olivia has continuously broadened her music, showing
that she is a versatile singer covering rock songs as well
as gentle folk ballads.
In 1994 Olivia penned all the songs on her release, Gaia - One
Woman's Journey . Not one to let personal upset
get in her way, the album shared her personal experiences
with breast cancer, so that other women could see that survival
was possible. In 1999, with the release of her album,
Back With A Heart, Olivia garnered an Emmy Award for
her songwriting and returned to work as a performer touring
extensively in the United States for the first time in seventeen
years. In 2000/2001, Olivia released her only live album, One
Woman's Live Journey, followed by Magic - The Very
Best of Olivia Newton-John, which celebrated thirty
years of recording. 2004 brought the release of Olivia's Indigo CD,
a tribute to the women singers who influenced her during
the early days of her career. In 2005 came Stronger Than
Before, a CD of life-affirming songs with proceeds
going to breast cancer awareness.
With the new millennium, Olivia's international recognition
has also continued to grow. She was invited by the Vatican
to perform at the Jubilee Celebration for the Sick and Healthcare
Workers, and was thrilled to sing the duet, "Dare to Dream" with
fellow Australian John Farnham at the Opening Ceremony of the
Sydney 2000 Olympics. In 2002, Olivia was inducted into the
prestigious Australian Music Hall Of Fame at the 16th Annual
Aria Awards.
Throughout her career, Olivia has continuously given back
to the community generously and has been acknowledged many
times by charitable and environmental organizations for her
ongoing efforts. Her public appeal has proved to be timeless.
A vibrant, creative individual that is adored by fans across
the world, Olivia Newton-John continues to perform in the U.S.
and Australia to sold-out crowds.
